What you can say to patients

Here are some gentle ways to bring up the support service:

There’s a free local service that helps people keep their homes warm and reduce energy costs – would you like me to refer you?

Lots of people struggle with things like damp, heating controls or energy bills. There’s support available that could make a real difference.

If you’re feeling cold at home or worried about mould or heating, there’s help we can connect you with – it won’t cost you anything.

Everyone can get a free telephone advice call. You don’t need to assess eligibility – we’ll do that once they’re referred.

Why it matters

Referring someone for free home energy support isn’t just about heating – it’s about health, dignity and long-term wellbeing.

By making a referral, you can help your patients:

  • Save money on energy bills during a time when every penny counts.
  • Prevent cold-related illnesses from developing.
  • Avoid deterioration in existing health conditions, especially during the winter months.
  • Support better health outcomes by helping people live in homes that are warm, dry and safe.
  • Reduce stress and improve comfort, which positively impacts mental and physical health.
  • Ease the pressure on the NHS by reducing hospital admissions and long-term care needs.
