This means looking at your community’s carbon emissions as a whole and considering up front what you want to achieve overall. Research has shown that this tends to be more effective than running ad hoc projects, which are unlikely to add up to a community-wide shift.
It will help you to build up a critical mass of community awareness and support – from attracting volunteers to bringing in funding.
This helps you to prioritise projects, so that you’re tackling the biggest sources of emissions that are within your community’s control. It’s often a good idea to start with something that will have a direct benefit to individuals in your community, to build up awareness and support.
Apply for up to £150 in funding so that you and your community can cook, grow, or simply share a low carbon meal!
Open to community groups, schools and Parish Councils in Cumberland. Applications close Friday 12th September.
A diverse group of 40 residents from across Cumbria, chosen by sortition (lottery), has produced a set of 17 recommendations for change and a set of principles to guide decision making.
