We can help your educational setting to lead on climate action and inspire lasting change amongst young people, staff and beyond. Taking action has a number of benefits:
Simple changes like energy-efficient lighting, better heating controls and switching off unused equipment can cut bills and show young people how small actions can all add up to protect the planet.
Walking, cycling, and other low carbon modes of travel can improve wellbeing and reduce carbon emissions, while a school garden or allotment encourages healthy eating and improves biodiversity.
Going green gives you the opportunity to work with parents, community groups and businesses on climate action projects. From sharing garden produce to running joint events, these partnerships bring people together, share important skills and make a bigger impact.
Cumbria Sustainability Network groups are often keen to work with local schools.
Apply for up to £150 in funding so that your school can cook, grow, or simply share a low carbon meal!
Open to schools in Cumberland. Applications close Friday 12th September.
We’re been working with Cumbrian schools to explore the joys of local, seasonal food through hands-on experiences on farms and in the classroom.
Take a look at the Zero Carbon Cumbria website for lots of resources such as recipes, classroom activities and lesson plans to help teachers and parents explore the topic with young people.
Is your school operating in line with the Department for Education sustainability requirements?
We can provide practical, energising online sessions designed to help school leaders, teachers and governors create and implement a climate action plan that works for your educational setting.
This interactive session uses a hands-on, visual approach to unpack the science behind climate change and spark meaningful conversations about potential solutions.
As well as the three-hour workshop for adults, there is a two-hour Junior Fresk which has been adapted for young people between 10 and 14 years old. This means that there are options for both staff and students.
