This means looking at your community’s carbon emissions as a whole and considering up front what you want to achieve overall. Research has shown that this tends to be more effective than running ad hoc projects, which are unlikely to add up to a community-wide shift.
It will help you to build up a critical mass of community awareness and support – from attracting volunteers to bringing in funding.
This helps you to prioritise projects, so that you’re tackling the biggest sources of emissions that are within your community’s control. It’s often a good idea to start with something that will have a direct benefit to individuals in your community, to build up awareness and support.
Not-for-profits across Cumbria are invited to apply for grants of up to £300 to organise events celebrating climate action, local food and nature this June!
Whether you’re based in Westmorland & Furness or Cumberland, there’s support available to help you organise an event or activity – apply by Monday 4 May.
A diverse group of 40 residents from across Cumbria, chosen by sortition (lottery), has produced a set of 17 recommendations for change and a set of principles to guide decision making.
