We manage and facilitate the Zero Carbon Cumbria Partnership and the work of the Zero Carbon Cumbria programme, thanks to funding from Westmorland and Furness Council and support from the Lake District National Park Authority.
The Partnership is a collaboration involving over 300 people from around 80 organisations which brings people together from all walks of life. They share knowledge, coordinate activity and focus effort where it will make the biggest difference to reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases which are the cause of climate change.
The Cumbria Sustainability Network (CSN) brings together groups and individuals from across the county to support each other to raise awareness of the climate crisis and encourage action to cut carbon emissions, in line with the Zero Carbon Cumbria mission to achieve net zero by 2037. The network is an important part of the Zero Carbon Cumbria Partnership, ensuring that there is a strong community voice which can help influence change.
From local initiatives to large-scale strategies, our spotlight pages highlights the transformative actions reducing emissions across Cumbria. Dive into each strategic priority, presented in the Emissions Reduction Action Plans, understand its impact, and see how you can be part of the solution.
The partnership is driving change through its working groups, which focus on the main sources of emissions in Cumbria. They have developed emissions reduction action plans that provide a pathway for tackling emissions in the key sectors; transport, buildings, consumption and waste, and farming and other land use. Working towards the goal of becoming net zero by 2037.
In the third Zero Carbon Cumbria Summit, we will bring together local leaders, professionals, local and national politicians, campaigners, educators and young people – all working towards a fair and ambitious net zero transition.
Not-for-profit groups across Cumbria can access funding to support activities and events this June: grants of up to £200 or £300 are available as part of The Big Lunch and Great Big Green Week, respectively. Apply now!
Developed collaboratively by the University of Cumbria and Futureproof Cumbria as part of the Zero Carbon Cumbria Partnership, these four briefing papers explore how we can remove the barriers to decarbonisation in Cumbria.
